In addition to the word itself, the word "scout" contains the meaning of "pioneer". Sir Baden Powell, founder of boy scout, meant his wish to boys be an ambitious man who explores his happy life by himself, and contributes to social development. Boy Scout started in Britain in 1908. Baden Powell connected his camp life, natural observation, and wilderness experience to boys' flourishing adventurous spirit and curiosity so as to create a new method to rise self independent people who could be useful to our society. Girl Guide (Girl Scout) was organized in 1910 by Agnes Powell, a younger sister of Baden Powell, upon request of her brother. Olave Powell, a wife of B-P also supported, and achieved the entire cooperation to the activities, and is known as Mother of girl scouts. In this way, the scout activities have been overwhelmingly supported by boys and girls, and spread to the countries in the world. Nowadays, it has become the world's largest volunteer youth movement, in which 28 million or more people have participated in 216 countries as of 2003.
